Flight News : Thomas Cook Issues Profit Warning

Thomas Cook Group who operate Thomas Cook Airways and a number of hotel booking websites as well as their package holiday brands have issued their third profits warning of the year leaving their shares down 30% as investors took fright. Thomas Cook Group shares now trade at just 72p, a third of their value of over 200p just a year ago. They are now at their lowest level since the merger with troubled MyTravel in 2007.

Thomas Cook Group trades as Hotels4u and Medhotels as well as other leading UK travel names such as Airtours, Club 18-30 Holidays, Cresta, Cruise Thomas Cook, Direct Holidays, Elegant Resorts, Flexibletrips, Flythomasco…, Gold Medal, Manos, Neilson, Netflights, Panorama, Pure Luxury, Sentido, Style, Sunset, Sunworld Holidays, Swiss Travel Service, Thomas Cook, Thomas Cook Signature, Thomas Cook Tours and Thomas Cook Sport.

All Thomas Cook Group package holiday bookings are fully protected by ATOL so you can rest assured that your money is safe if you have booked a package holiday with them.

Analyst Morgan Stanley suggested the group would be in “a tough discussion with its banks – we forecast Thomas Cook will come close to its debt covenants in the next six months – while we don’t think it’s that bad, market leaders have collapsed before”.

If we were looking for peace-of-mind for our Hotel and Flight Bookings then the Hotel-Traveller team would probably feel far happier booking hotels and flights online with some of the other flight and hotel booking specialists given the current financial uncertainty.

Bournemouth Airport introduces £2.50 “Drop-off Charge”

Taxi firms are furious and say they will have to pass on a new £2.50 drop-off and pick-up charge at Bournemouth Airport to their customers.

At present, vehicles can park for free at the airport for up to 10 minutes before a £2.50 charge is applied for a stay of between 10 and 30 minutes.

But from 14 April all vehicles will be charged £2.50 for up to 30 minutes.

The airport has confirmed taxis would have to pay per visit as would friends and family for dropping off travellers at the terminal.

Rob Goldsmith, managing director of the airport, said most passengers left their cars at the airport while they were away, paying on-site parking charges “among the cheapest in southern England”.

He added: “However, we know that some people will be disappointed by this change and hope they will understand that this is a commercial decision brought about by the worldwide recession and the subsequent downturn in the aviation industry.”

A number of other airports across the UK have introduced a drop-off charge, including Edinburgh, Newcastle and East Midlands Airport.

Taxi drivers and airport customers have commented that they expect gridlock as people try to make drop-offs without entering the car parks.

One traveller at the terminal today expressed his concerns. “Another nail in the Bournemouth Airport coffin. Management should be trying to make the airport more attractive, not less. Very frustrating”

Ok, so the team here at Flight Traveller are totally addicted to all things travel but one thing we do all enjoy reading is a good travel magazine.

We obviously have a great interest in Flying and Flights but are always keen to read about destinations and activities.

There’s a fantastic range of travel magazines published every month and we all look forward to them dropping on to our doorstep.

Reading a good travel magazine is actually quite an uplifting experience (especially when we see “Flights” mentioned!!)

Personal favourites of the Flight Traveller Team are:

Sunday Times Travel Magazine
Lonely Planet Magazine
Conde Nast Traveller Magazine
National Geographic Traveller Magazine

but we also enjoy

Cruise International Magazine

and for those that enjoy dreaming about owning property overseas there’s the excellent

A Place in the Sun Magazine.

These travel magazines are about so much more than just holiday destinations. This months Sunday Times Travel Magazine contains an excellent article …

“50 ways the get the perks and upgrades that you’re not entitled to” …… it contains very useful tips indeed!

So obviously being flying obsessed why not be broad-minded and subscribe to a travel mag or two.

New! Flight, Holiday & Travel Resource

The Flight-Traveller team have been working hard over the past few weeks compiling a fantastic one-stop Flight travel resource.

This new content for the site isn’t limited to just Flight travel providers.

Along the top-bar menu there are now links to Hotel bookers, Holiday Operators, Flights, Cruises and Holiday Extras.

There’s also a section dedicated to UK based holidays because even those of us who travel overseas regularly still enjoy UK holidays and breaks. The UK has lots to offer and is very conveniently placed for the UK based traveller!

If you explore the listings you’ll be amazed at some of the fantastic holidays on offer. I’d personally never heard of some of the operators that we’ve listed but they all have amazing and often unique offerings. Work your way through them and you’ll hopefully be pleasantly surprised at what we’ve found and listed.

If you’re after a flight-based holiday package then stick to the holiday listings.

If you want to travel independently then we’ve listed some of the main hotel discounters. You can use these to find a great hotel deal if you’re flexible on the actual accomodation you stay at. Just enter your preferred resort with dates and these fantastic sites will search all available hotels for you and find the best deals.

If you have a favourite hotel group then we’ve linked to all the main hotel chains online booking facilities. Sometimes these have a lowest price guarantee or offer extra perks such as free papers or late check-outs. Often worth a look.

We hope you find this latestest addition to the Flight-Traveller website useful and will enjoy watching the resource grow as we add new providers on a regular basis.
